August 2006 vacation in the Normandy area of France

Quite an experience....

d02343.jpg

This site contains pictures from a recent trip I took to Normandy, France. The trip was a 50th birthday gift from my sister, Patricia, who accompanied me, along with her friend, Alexandra, who by the way is a Broadway star! She also speaks fluent French. Alexandra's 12 year old son, Philip "Hank" Henri also was with us. I hope they enjoyed the trip as much as I did. Thanks for the great birthday present!

The areas we visited were mostly the American sectors of D-Day on the Contentin Peninsula. Ste Mere Eglise, Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Point du Hoc, and the surrounding area. We also visited some German sites, like the gun battery at Azeville. Along with the pictures I took, I've also included some pictures I found on the internet that show the areas we visited just as they were on June 6, 1944. This will give you a perspective of D-Day. A small history of each area pertaining to WWII is included on each page. Click on any picture to get a larger, high resolution picture. Enjoy!

We also spent a few days at Mont St.Michel and in Paris. I've included pictures from there as well. You might also note pictures of the cottage we stayed in outside Ste Mere Eglise. I've included a link for the cottage, in case you'd like to rent it. The owners, Alicia & John, are extremely nice people and quite helpful.

The "Super U" grocery store
Bring your own bags..they don't supply them
like American supermarkets. Other than that,
they are very similar.
